SUMMARY:Hawaiʻi Island Bird Walk at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Park (Hawaiʻi Island)
DESCRIPTION:Our first bird walk for the new season will be on September 29th to Koloko-Honokōhau Nat’l Historical Park. We will meet at 7:00am at the northern parking lot of Honokohau Harbor near the sailing club (please see the marker on the map image below). There is an entrance to the national park from that location. The first part of the walk will be fairly easy on flat terrain. It is designed for beginning birders to learn about our migrant shorebirds as well as the local birds of the Kona area. This is open to any and all levels of birding interest.  We will cover identification as well as some pointers on binocular and spotting scope use.  The second part of the walk will be along the beach which is a bit harder to traverse, so people have the choice of just doing the first half. The walk should last about 2-3 hours depending on the birds we find. We have an opportunity to see 10-20 species of birds. What to bring: Binoculars, camera, hiking or water shoes, hat, sunscreen, drinking water, snacks, and a bird book if you would like.\n\n
