SUMMARY:Great Backyard Bird Count Pop-up (Oʻahu)
DESCRIPTION:Count birds with us! Hawaiʻi Audubon Society will be hosting a pop-up at Ala Moana Regional Park on Saturday, February 15, to share the joy of birds and how you can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). And you don’t need a backyard in order to participate! \nWe will have games, share info on Hawaiʻi’s birds and teach how you can contribute to this critical research on bird populations. We will also take visitors around the park for short 10-minute bird counts to show you how it’s done–make sure to sign up at our booth for either the 10:00am or 1:00pm slot! And if you are a beginning bird admirer and new to bird identification, we can teach you how to use the Merlin Bird ID app.\nDate: Saturday, February 15, 2025Time: 9:00am – 3:00pmLocation: Magic Island, Ala Moana Beach Park, Site 31 (see map below)\nAbout GBBC: \nJoin the world in connecting to birds February 14-17, 2025 during the Great Backyard Bird Count ( https://www.birdcount.org/ ) (GBBC). Spend time in your favorite places watching birds. In as little as 15 minutes notice the birds around you. Identify them, count them, and submit your counts to help scientists better understand and protect birds around the world. If you already use eBird or Merlin, your submissions over the 4 days count toward GBBC.\nFacts About GBBC:\n\nThe event began in 1998 as an annual bird count in North America and runs each February.\nA February count allows for a snapshot of birds right before one of their annual migrations.\nIn 2013, GBBC became an international event and data was collected using eBird.\nData from GBBC accumulates in the eBird database. Each year more than 100 scientific publications use eBird data for conservation.\nLearn more on their About page and to see results ( https://www.birdcount.org/results/ ) from previous years’ counts.\n\n \n \n
