SUMMARY:Kaʻena Point Bird Tour (Oʻahu)
DESCRIPTION:Join Hawaiʻi Audubon Society for a bird tour at Kaʻena Point to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day!\n \nWalking to Kaʻena Point is like walking to one of the northwest Hawaiian islands.  Being inside the predator exclusion fence is the closest one can get to being on a northwest Hawaiian island without actually visiting one.  We will first walk the 2.5 miles (between 5-6 total miles of walking round trip) on generally flat but rough, rocky, sandy and muddy in places with few stops in order to maximize our time at the point. Once there, we hope to see Albatross and evidence of other seabirds, rare and endangered plants, important cultural sites, and the dramatic vistas of both the north and south shorelines of Oʻahu. After an hour or so within the fenced area near the point, the guide will return to the meeting location.  Participants can return with the guide or choose to spend more time at Kaʻena Point or make their way back to their transport on their own at their leisure.\n \nTour leader: Keith Swindle\nTour size: limited to 12 people; HAS members and ʻElepaio subscribers have first preference for this hike.\nA waiver will need to be filled out for this event, which will be provided to you after your registration has been confirmed.\n \nWhat to bring: Please wear shoes with good traction and be prepared for hot, sunny weather. Bring lots of water, snacks, sun screen, a hat, binoculars (optional), and any personal medication you might need.
