DESCRIPTION:Hawaiʻi Audubon Society is hosting Manu o Kū (White Tern) training for hands on tree workers and commercial arborists on Saturday, November 15, 2025. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session. Update: **Morning session sold out, sign up for afternoon session only.**\nAgenda8:00am – 11:45am: Morning session11:14am – 12:45pm: Lunch12:45pm – 4:00pm: Afternoon session\nLocation: Kapiʻolani Community College (KCC), parking in Lot A. Please note Lots B, C and D will be closed for the weekly KCC Farmer’s MarketCost: $15.00. We have requested approval of 3 CEUs for those who are certified. Bento lunch is included.\n					\n									Reserve your spot\n					\n		The workshop features presentations by arborists from Donahue Arborist and Tree Solutions, Hui Manu o Kū lead & Hawaiʻi Audubon board member, Rich Downs, and Hawaiʻi Audubon Executive Director, Keith Swindle. Learning objectives are:\n\nIdentifying and understanding Manu o Kū biology and breeding.\nRecognizing cultural importance of the White Tern in Hawaiʻi.\nUnderstanding legal protections and arborist responsibilities.\nLearning to incorporate online tools into job planning.\nApplying best management practices when trimming near active nests.\nUnderstanding behavior-defined buffer zones and how to adjust work accordingly.\nSpotting breeding activity from the ground and canopy.\nResponding appropriately to emergencies involving chicks or injured adults.\n\nThe class size is limited to 20 people each session.\nFunded by a grant from the Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program of the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and by the Urban & Community Forestry Program of the U.S.D.A.
