DESCRIPTION:Hawaiʻi Audubon Society and Livable Maunalua Hui are organizing a volunteer day to celebrate the ʻalae ʻula or Hawaiian Gallinule, an endangered waterbird unique to Hawaiʻi. There are only around 700 left in the world (on Oʻahu and Kauaʻi). Join us at Keawāwa Wetland in Maunalua to protect and mālama this native bird! Help restore Keawāwa’s watershed and support a healthy home for the ‘alae ‘ula. Learn from partner booths about their inspiring work and enjoy a special ʻalae ʻula oli, as well as a bird tour through the wetland led by Hawaiʻi Audubon board members.\nDate: Saturday, October 10, 2026Time: 8:30am – 11:30amLocation: Keawāwa Wetland, OʻahuWhat to bring: Sunscreen, hat, water bottle, snacks, closed toed shoes, wear clothes that you dont mind getting dirty/muddy- especially if you’re interested in working in/near the water.\nAll participants will need to sign a waiver.
