Right now, some of the most spectacular viewing of nesting White Terns (Manu o Kū) can be found along one of the busiest streets in Honolulu.
From the third level of the Ala Moana Center Target parking garage, eggs and small chicks are currently visible at eye level in nearby trees—an amazing opportunity to observe these elegant seabirds up close. Along the way, we’ll share the remarkable story of how this ocean-going species has made Honolulu its home and how the community is helping to protect them.
Even if the approaching storm brings a little rain on Sunday, we’ll be able to watch the birds comfortably from the covered levels of the parking garage overlooking Kapi‘olani Boulevard. Because the viewing area is covered and the walk takes place entirely on one level of the parking structure, this event is wheelchair accessible and suitable for people who prefer a short, easy walk.
Whether you’re a longtime bird lover or simply curious about the wildlife living among us, this is a wonderful chance to see one of Honolulu’s most beloved birds in action.
PS. Bring your camera for some great pics!
