Discover Keawāwa Wetland: A Hidden Oasis in Maunalua
Tucked within the heart of suburban Maunalua (Hawai‘i Kai), the Keawāwa Wetland is a rare 5-acre sanctuary nourished by freshwater springs and teeming with life. Owned and stewarded by Livable Maunalua Hui, this active restoration site invites community members to help restore the native abundance that once thrived here. Spot native birds like the kōlea, manu o Kū, ‘alae ‘ula, and ‘auku‘u—sometimes even the graceful ʻae‘o—alongside a colorful mix of non-native species. Join a guided birding tour led by HAS Executive Director Keith Swindle and experience the vibrant birdlife of Keawāwa up close!
